Downalong - St Ives - Cornwall

Shutters Holiday Cottage, Downalong, St Ives Details

Open the door and you’ll be on the ground floor. You’ll find a warm and welcoming family lounge, with enough seating for 6, 32” smart TV and DVD player, perfect for relaxing after a day exploring the Cornish countryside. Behind the gorgeous granite wall, complete with original pilchard press, you’ll find a utility and wet room, so you can shake off the day after sand castle building, surfing or swimming at one of the local beaches.

If you’re planning days out you’ll find a picnic hamper, cool bag and some funky traditional deckchairs, which you’re welcome to use. And if there’s laundry to do you can use the washing machine, drying rack and ironing board.

Jani’s bespoke staircase, reminiscent of those you’d find on a ship, transports you to the second floor and the light and airy kitchen and dining area. The round dining table seats four on built in benches and there are four folding chairs for any extra guests. We’ve included all the mod cons you’d expect – dishwasher, microwave, fridge with freezer compartment, electric oven and hob. There's even a waffle maker in the cupboard as our boys love them after returning from surfing!

Once you’re done with dinner you can unwind in the lounge area next to the kitchen. There’s a radio for a bit of background noise and a selection of children’s games and books to keep the kids amused. And there’s a sofa bed if you fancy a quick holiday nap.

When it’s time for bed the spiral staircase takes you up to the two double bedrooms on the third floor. You can just about spy the sea from one of the bedrooms and the automated velux window allows you to lay and look up to see the seagulls flying overhead.  We’ll make up the beds for your arrival with crisp white sheets and they’ll be plenty of towels. More of Jani’s handwork is in the bedrooms, with handmade benches acting as storage. Both bedrooms have their own ensuites.

We have a dog, and she’s part of our family so we’re happy for you to bring yours with you. We’ll charge you an extra £30 for one well-behaved furry friend, because Shutters might need a bit of extra cleaning. Our dog has her moments and we wouldn’t leave her alone in the house, so we ask that you do the same. And we know this might make some of you a bit sad but please don't let your dog on the soft furnishings or the furniture – just don't give in when they give you the sad eyes and remember to pack their bowls, towels and bed!

Because of the number of steps in the house and the open staircases we don't think it would suit you if you’re less mobile, in a wheelchair or have toddlers.

We’re parents to two very energetic children who love being steps away from the beach and because of them, we’re strictly a non-smoking property.

We can provide a travel cot but please can you bring your own bedding for your baby, as you know what suits them best.

Once you get to the cottage you’ll find a welcome pack bursting with ideas for places to visit and more details on local beaches, restaurants, shops and all the amenities you’ll need to make this your perfect coastal Cornish retreat.  If you need a special welcome such as champagne or birthday cake, please let us know - it can all be arranged prior to your stay by our amazing housekeeper.
